Why Body Dysmorphic Disorder Can Be Frequently Confused With Addiction?

Question by Grace: why body dysmorphic disorder can be frequently confused with addiction?
I was my chatting with my friends when our topic shifted to body dysmorphic disorder. I know this is a disorder where you dislike your own body, but most of my friend associate this is addiction. How can this be associated with addiction? Any insights is appreciated.

I’m not sure of the addiction they are talking about. But, a lot of times (based on my own findings & observations) is that people with self image disorders often resort to drugs and get high to feel better. In a sense, they self-medicate. Often times this leads to addiction.
