Did You Hear About the Man Who Died in China From Pnuemonic Plague?
Question by Ben: Did you hear about the man who died in China from pnuemonic plague?
I seen the story on yahoo about an hour before i posted this. apparently he got this type of plague (which is the 2nd most virulent and 2nd least common) and died. they did not say when he died. the story also says 11 people are currently in the hospital being treated with it. something worrisome..it’s caused by the same bacteria that killed about 25 million people in Europe in the 14th century. and it can be spread from person to person in the air. the whole city of 10,000 people where the people are infected and the man died is being quarantined and a group of experts are being sent there to analyze the situation. They are advising people that have been there and/or in the surrounding area since July 16th to go to the hospital if they develop symptoms. here is the story http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090802/ap_on_re_as/as_china_plague
so what do you think?

Fortunately, the symptoms are visible but immediate treatment should be administered with high dose of tetracycline or equivalent drugs like streptomycin. all these drugs are highly effective against the bacteria.
If drugs are not administered within 24 hours, the chances of certain death reaches almost 100%. 7 days of treatment and chances are reduced to almost 0%.
Even though it is the same disease that killed millions in the 14th century, that is bubonic plague. (Black Death) Pneumonic is the secondary or tertiary stage of this killer plague
These drugs are however toxic in nature and care should be taken care.

Lets hope they keep this contained within that city. Between the regular flu season approaching and swine flu add this and our health care system would likely collapse. I really don’t trust China to be honest or forthcoming with the real situation either. Sars, bird flu, swine flu now plaques…what is going on in that country???
