Why do doctors prescribe addicting medication when there are plenty of other possibilities they could give that can do the exact same job without the patient getting addicted to them??

most medications arent addictive.. they only have withdrawal side effects if stopped suddenly.. withdrawal side effects arent the same as having an addiction to them.. addiction is a need to have more thats not the same.. addictive medications are only used short term..

some intend to prescribe them short term & then patients need to take them longer for various reasons. some of these drugs are given because they have been tried and tested over decades & have no major health risks attached like some drugs that can cause cancer. being addicted and dependant on a drug are two different things. some sleeping tablets are non addictive but we can become dependant on them and have to increase the dose to get the same effect.
